We're looking for an enthusiastic and highly skilled Accounting Specialist that provides support as a member of the SSMO Ministries Corporation finance team. The duties include: Payroll Based Journaling, Accounts Payable, Payroll backup support and accounting administration functions.

Background screening required for all campus employees. What you'll do: In this role, you will support our core accounting operations and keep our financial engine running smoothly. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting monthly accounting cycles with accuracy and timeliness.
- Managing records that support payroll-based accounting entries and compiling quarterly reports.
- Receiving, verifying and reconciling invoices as assigned.
- Performing reconciliation of accounts across systems and identifying discrepancies.
- Combining, cleaning, and analyzing data files from multiple platforms.
- Maintaining accurate reporting, filing and documentation.
- Providing payroll support and troubleshooting if needed.
- Receive, process, verify and reconcile invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies.
- Data Blending (collect and combine data from multiple sources) to create ad hoc reports for rapid analysis as well as retrieving information from other systems and preparing in a format that can be loaded into the payroll system.
- Maintain and create ad hoc reports.
- Interact with customers both internal and external.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring: We're looking for someone who is:
- Highly skilled in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data manipulations, formulas).
- Exceptional at data analysis with a strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable working with multiple systems and merging datasets.
- Experienced with payroll processes and accounting practices.
- Ability to type 45 WPM.
- Adaptable, proactive, and eager to improve processes.
- A team player with excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of payroll accounting including federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Interpersonal skills.
Experience: - Associates degree in finance or accounting or related fields is required, Bachelor's degree is preferred. (equivalent experience may be considered in place of a degree).
- One (1) year of professional accounting experience, preferable in a nonprofit or healthcare environment.
- Experience with payroll systems and accounting software (e.g., Paycom, ADP or similar).
- Background working with data from multiple platforms or systems strongly preferred.
Physical requirements: - Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to type, use a keyboard, and perform repetitive hand /wrist motions.
- Ability to read documents, spreadsheets, and digital screens.
- Occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds (such as files, office supplies, or equipment).
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone and through written communication.
- Ability to focus for extended periods and manage detailed work.
