Job Summary

Passengers will be assisted in the movement of their personal luggage or parcels within this station or station facilities.

The GEB (Guaranteed Extraboard) Red Cap is an on-call position. This employee is guaranteed full-time pay and the schedule will vary from week-to-week. They will be expected to cover planned and unplanned time off in the absence of other team members. Washington Union Station's hours require that candidates be willing to work any shift/schedule, including days, afternoons, evenings, holidays and weekends.

Essential Functions

  • Provide wheelchair service for disabled and/or handicapped passengers.
  • Provide arm assistance to blind individuals to and from the trains.
  • Conversant with the procedure governing the issuance of Red Cap Check NRPC Form 313.
  • The GEB (Guaranteed Extra board) Customer Service Representative is an on-call position. This employee is guaranteed full-time pay and the schedule will vary from week-to-week. Minimum Qualifications

  • Employee must conform to Amtrak’s Standards of Excellence and prescribed code of dress.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds. 
  • Experience in a service-oriented position.
  • Must have a valid Driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of college or business equivalent.

Communications and Interpersonal Skills

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The hourly range is $19.55 – $26.06 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment).
