Job Title: Instrument & Electrical Technician II
Location: Baker, MT
Schedule: 14 Days On / 14 Days Off
Summary: This position plays a key role in the safe and reliable operation of electrical and control systems supporting oil and gas production. The I&E Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and instrumentation equipment. The role requires a strong technical background, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities - Install, calibrate, test, and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment, including pressure, flow, level, and temperature devices
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems including motors, switchgear, transformers, control panels, VFDs, and lighting systems
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in instrumentation and control systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control schematics
- Apply work permits and follow safe work practices through the Permit to Work System (PTWS)
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, particularly regarding safety and environmental guidelines
- Support planning and scheduling of maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity
- Assist with the development and review of technical specifications, procedures, and work practices related to electrical and control systems
- Participate in the Management of Change (MOC) process and conduct inspections to ensure the integrity of new installations and modifications
- Serve as backup to the I&E Lead, providing oversight and direction to other technicians as needed
- Engage in ongoing training and development to stay current on new equipment, technologies, procedures, and codes
- Foster strong communication and collaboration between maintenance, operations, engineering, and project teams
Minimum Qualifications - Associate’s degree in instrumentation, electrical technology, or related field (or equivalent technical training)
- 3+ years of experience working in electrical and instrumentation maintenance in oil & gas, petrochemical, or processing environments
- Proven knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical systems, industrial instrumentation, and control systems
- Familiarity with OSHA, NEC, API, and other relevant codes and standards
Technical Competencies - Proficient in the use of test equipment such as multimeters, meggers, loop calibrators, and HART communicators
- Understanding of Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) and company maintenance programs
- Ability to work within computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and use digital tools for documentation and reporting
- Strong computer skills for reporting, troubleshooting software-based control systems, and reading digital schematics
