We are seeking a highly skilled and dependable Remote Legal Assistant to support California employment attorneys in state and federal practice. This contract role involves handling critical legal administrative tasks such as e-filing, document management, creating tables of contents and tables of authorities, calendaring, and professional communication with courts, clients, and opposing counsel.
The ideal candidate must have 5+ years of California-based legal experience, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in litigation-related tools and software. Prior experience in employment law and familiarity with California and federal court procedures is essential. You will play an integral role in ensuring the smooth operation of legal processes while working remotely. Our firm specializes in plaintiff employment cases, including both single plaintiff and class action litigation, and handles a high volume of active cases.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, format, and review legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and tables of authorities/contents.
- Manage and maintain comprehensive court filings, including state, federal, and arbitration submissions.
- Coordinate scheduling and calendaring using case management software, ensuring deadlines are met and appointments are organized.
- Provide administrative support for ongoing litigation, including maintaining accurate case records and tracking case progress.
- Cross-train with the outgoing paralegal to ensure seamless knowledge transfer and operational continuity.
- Communicate effectively with attorneys, clients, and court personnel to facilitate case management.
- Utilize Adobe Acrobat and other legal tools to create, edit, and manage case-related documents.
- Assist in managing case workflows and prioritizing tasks in a busy legal environment.
- Ensure compliance with procedural rules and deadlines for all litigation processes.
- Work collaboratively to support a caseload of 70-100 active cases, with flexibility for overtime as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant in civil litigation.
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and case management software such as Clio.
- Strong skills in calendaring and scheduling, with familiarity in tools like CompuLaw.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with attorneys, clients, and court personnel effectively.
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal court filing procedures.
- Ability to work in a high-volume environment and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Experience with formatting legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and TOAs/TOCs.
- Flexibility to work extended hours and handle overtime when required.
