Position Highlights

  • DEEP's Water Permitting and Enforcement Division regulates surface water and groundwater discharges to the waters of Connecticut.

  • In this position, SRA's will assist with a variety of tasks while gaining insight into water permitting, enforcement and pollution prevention in the industries that are regulated under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).

  • The schedule for this position is up to 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

  • Position is durational, lasting no longer than 1 year or a total of 1,040 hours, whichever comes first. Opportunity to telework a portion of the work week based on position details.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Enters, organizes, reviews, and interprets technical information.

  • Performs duties under the direction of an environmental analyst in the office, field or laboratory setting.

  • Analyzes data to prepare reports or correspondence.

  • Uses GIS to interpret spatial patterns or display program information.

  • Assists with the development of reports, environmental reviews, plans or documents.

  • Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of the Division program goals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to follow instructions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience or college coursework in environmental protection, water pollution control, stormwater, wastewater, environmental chemistry, biology, hydrology, or public health with a focus on water quality.

  • Experience conducting research, writing and presenting reports.

  • Experience utilizing MS Office e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.

  • Experience utilizing GIS software, or StoryMaps.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.

  • Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:

  • Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.

  • Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.

  • College training in a specific field.

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific state facilities.

  • Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.

  • Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
